Zero dumping
Keraben Grupo reuses 100% of the waste water from its production processes, thereby achieving its objective of ‘zero dumping’.
Today the company’s facilities include a plant that treats the water used in its production processes.
Wastewater is also recovered from other companies that are not equipped with the necessary infrastructures.
Efficient energy use
Energy efficiency is one of the tile group’s key objectives. In this sense, Keraben has invested in systems that allow the excess energy generated in certain processes to be used at other stages of production.
The best example of this is the Cogeneration Plant, which, in addition to generating electricity, also contributes to cutting the energy consumption of the spray dryers.
Excellence in waste management
Our waste management system covers the entire production process, and is adapted to the various phases, thereby guaranteeing maximum standards of excellence in production waste management.
We selectively segregate both hazardous and non-hazardous waste to guarantee safe storage and transfer to the authorised handler for their later processing.
We are constantly introducing improvements to our packaging design in order to increase the amount of product included in each package, and thereby reduce packaging waste generated following the use of our products.
We are members of Ecoembes, a business plan designed to reduce packaging waste by optimising box and pallet design.
Recycling – Water and clay recovery
A series of measures are applied at each stage of the production process in order cut raw material consumption to a minimum.
This enables us to recycle sub-products (waste and rejects) generated during production, which are then reconverted into raw materials thanks to the spray drying process. This procedure is also applied to sub-products from other companies that are unable to reuse them as their facilities are not equipped with the necessary technology.
A means of reducing CO2 – controlling emission levels
Thanks to degree of energy efficiency achieved by cogeneration, we have managed to cut our CO2 emissions.
Cogeneration makes a significant contribution to reducing emissions nationwide, and plays a major role in contributing to compliance with the Kyoto Protocol. We have also installed filters that enable us to reduce and control CO2 emission levels.
Blue and Green is the internal document detailing all the environmental protection measures adopted by the Keraben Group.
These measures can be summed up as follows:
- Zero water dumping.
- Reduction in CO2 emissions thanks to our cogeneration process.
- Reduction in the CO2 emissions of other companies, thanks to the sale of excess electricity produced by cogeneration.
- Recovery and reuse of unfired biscuits, dust, or press rejects into the clay process.
- Installation of corrective devices to control contaminating emission levels.
- Selective waste segregation for appropriate treatment and processing.
- Inclusion of a prevention plan to optimise box and pallet design.
- Contribution to reducing environmental noise pollution.
