Victorian design is back in style

It’s time for tea!

We have no idea whether handwritten correspondence and tormented poets will also make a comeback, but what we do know is that Victorian design will be all the rage in 2018. We pinpoint the main keys to this trend and how to apply it to your new lounge or bedroom.

1 . More is better. To begin with, forget minimalism because Victorian design is all about maximalism. This design style evokes the bygone era of large historic mansions with their curtains and mouldings; in other words, a Downton Abbey with a certain revamped air.

2. Colours. Dark colours like greens, blues and ochres will be the in thing, but with an accompanying modern touch of pink or fuchsia to add a chic contrast.

3. Grey, beige, off-white and pastel colours will also be popular, together with metal effects, in a new version of Victorian design fused with other features that have certain industrial echoes.

4. Ceilings are all important, with showy lighting (chandeliers, above all) and mouldings. As for fabrics, fancy-looking curtains, with velvets and floral prints, will take pride of place.

5. And don’t forget to feature candles, sideboards, mirrors and ornate picture frames for that aristocratic touch you seek to lend your home.
